LISTEN Names Rob McGregor Executive Director

Veteran nonprofit leader to start March 13, 2023

LISTEN Community Services has appointed Rob Roy McGregor of Canaan, NH as its new Executive Director beginning March 13, 2023.


Mr. McGregor served with YMCA and YMCA International for 30 years, including 19 years as President and CEO of the Southern District YMCA in Exeter, NH. He has participated in numerous community organizations and has provided consulting services to nonprofit organizations on fiscal management, fundraising, organizational visioning, community engagement and authentic leadership. Mr. McGregor is also the founder and owner of Wescott Farm in Canaan, NH, growing organic food to address food

insecurity. He is the great-grandson of the Rev. Edgar J Helms, founder of Goodwill Industries, a major

operator of thrift stores nationwide, and serves on the Board of Directors of Goodwill New England.

LISTEN as its new Executive Director. Rob’s nonprofit management experience and deep knowledge of the thrift store industry are a great fit for LISTEN. We look forward to Rob’s leadership as LISTEN grows to meet the ever-increasing needs of our neighbors in the Upper Valley,” said Jay Benson, Chair of LISTEN’s Board of Directors.

means so much to its clients, staff, volunteers, customers, and supporters. LISTEN is embarking on a new chapter in its continuing service to the community, and I look forward to meeting and working with all of our stakeholders to grow LISTEN and ensure that it remains a strong and vital organization serving our neighbors,” said Mr. McGregor.


Mr. McGregor will succeed Richard Green, who has served as Interim Executive Director since September 2022. Mr. Green will return to LISTEN’s Board of Directors as Treasurer.

Founded in 1972, LISTEN provides crisis intervention and essentials such as food, heating, electricity,

and housing assistance to clients throughout the Upper Valley. LISTEN employs 80 people at four

locations. Facilities include a food pantry, a community dining hall, three thrift stores, and a warehouse, as well as client services and administrative offices.
