Food Pantry

LISTEN will provide anyone in our service area with 1-2 weeks of groceries each month. We also have toiletries and pet food. We are now open Mondays 12pm - 4pm and Tuesday - Friday from 10am - 4pm. Walk-ins are welcome! You will receive a warm welcome and the help you need.

Food insecurity is on the rise in the Upper Valley. Just before the COVID-19 crisis, LISTEN’s food pantry experienced a 40% increase in demand for assistance. Due to the pandemic, more of our Upper Valley neighbors now find themselves struggling to meet their basic monthly expenses. They often find themselves forced to choose between paying for necessities like medicine and utility bills or purchasing food. LISTEN will provide anyone in our service area with 1-2 weeks of groceries each month. We also have toiletries and often a supply of pet food. The pantry is open on Mondays 12pm-4pm and Tuesday-Friday from 10am - 4pm, and walk-ins are welcome. You will receive a warm welcome and the help you need. If you would like to donate to or volunteer in LISTEN’s pantry, you can learn more below.

LISTEN COMMUNITY SERVICES

How LISTEN Helps Food Insecurity in the Upper Valley

Approximately 1 in 7 men, women, and children in New Hampshire and 1 in 4 in Vermont struggle with food insecurity. LISTEN helps to meet this challenge by providing aid to anyone who visits our pantry. Last year, the pantry assisted over 5,000 people with food and personal items.

We provide a variety of staple items, and we also have fresh vegetables, meat, and dairy products. Many foods come from local farms and producers. We do our best to help those who have special diets.

When LISTEN purchases products for the pantry, we are able to buy in bulk at a discounted rate meaning that any dollars donated to support the pantry are stretched to provide more. Every $1 raised supplies 2 meals for people in our community.

When Julia visited LISTEN’s food pantry, we were ready to send her home with fresh produce, cereal, and more. Julia works at one of the local hospitals, and her husband recently lost his job due to COVID-19. They could no longer make their income stretch to feed their family of four and pay for other necessities. Julia was tentative to come by and ask for support. Our staff boosted her spirits and told her to come back soon.

You will be asked to provide the attendant with your first and last name, the town and state you live in, and the number of people in your household. If you are picking up food for someone else, you will be asked to provide the same information about their household. All personal information will be kept confidential by LISTEN. When you arrive, you will be asked to select food from a list that we will provide and return it to the attendant so that they can pack up your selections for you. While your items are being gathered, you will be invited inside to choose from additional food items available in our lobby area. After you complete your selections inside, you are invited to wait in your car or just outside the pantry in the driveway while the attendant finishes packing up your initial list. The only other requirement we have for you is to consider the health and protection of all guests, volunteers, and employees when you are on LISTEN’s property. We ask that all who partake follow these simple recommended prevention steps:

    • If you have experienced any coronavirus or other cold or flu-like symptoms, please refrain from coming to minimize the risk of spreading infection.
    • Please practice physical distancing.
    • Please always wear a mask.
    • No handshaking or hugging.
    • If possible, cough or sneeze into a tissue and discard. Use your elbow only if you must.

We are grateful for all the support you provide to the work we do, and we hope you join us in taking these recommended precautions to care for yourself as well as for our community.
