Heating Helpers

LISTEN is here to help Upper Valley neighbors who are facing disconnection from electricity, cannot pay for their next fuel delivery, or need help with emergency repairs to maintain their heat.

Cold, wintery conditions are a daily reality for all of us in the Upper Valley. For those unable to pay their heating fuel bills, especially the elderly and those with young children, the lack of heat can be life threatening. LISTEN’s Heating Helpers program is a critical part of our community’s safety net to keep them warm during the coldest months. If you reach out to us for help, we will do our best to connect you with the resources you need. Please note that while LISTEN can help with paying for utilities, we are not in control of fuel delivery schedules, and cannot guarantee same-day deliveries or reconnection services.

Do you have an electric disconnect notice or are you in need of fuel assistance?

We can help pay for a minimum fuel delivery, prevent a disconnection, or refer you to other resources. You can access this service every 12 months. To make an appointment, call (603) 448-4553

LISTEN COMMUNITY SERVICES

How we provide heating assistance in the Upper Valley

Winter is long and cold, and heating bills create financial burden. LISTEN helps our neighbors to pay for fuel and prevent utility disconnection with small grants paid directly to utility or other services companies.

Our service coordinators are here to problem solve and assist with heating help. If needed, you can access this grant from LISTEN every 12 months.

Last year, we were able to help over 1,000 people in our community to stay warm during the winter. Demand for LISTEN’s help has increased steadily in recent years.

It was the middle of a cold evening in January and John and Laura found themselves without heat in their home in Lebanon. Their 25 year-old furnace had just died, a repair company was on the way, and the elderly couple was scared. After the furnace was patched up that night, John and Laura found themselves with a bill totaling $780. On a fixed income, this immediate financial pressure compounded their day-to-day reality: how can we pay for this bill? The next day, John and Laura turned to LISTEN Community Services for help. Using funds from LISTEN’s Heating Helpers program we were able to help pay for 50% of this repair and alleviate John and Laura’s crisis.

How can I help people in the Upper Valley who cannot afford to keep their home warm?

This program is made possible because of the generosity of people like you. A financial gift to LISTEN will ensure we have funding to help our Upper Valley neighbors who need heating assistance. When clients come to LISTEN, we offer them our help on a first come, first-served basis. Sometimes we run out of funds to provide them with adequate grants before the end of the cold weather each year. You can donate online or send a check to LISTEN’s office at 60 Hanover Street in Lebanon. Please note any restriction for heating assistance.
